An Arkansas lawmaker recently was fined for an assortment of traffic offenses filed after he left a state trooper on the side of the road, but he said "hell will freeze over" before he complies with the judge's order to make nice and apologize, according to a published report.

Sen. Mike Everett (D-Marked Tree) was ordered to cough up $575, plus court costs, after being convicted of speeding, fleeing and improper passing. Everett claims he left Trooper Tony Bowman standing by the road because the officer had cursed him.

In addition to the fines, Paragould District Judge Dan Stidman ordered the senator to apologize to Bowman and attend an anger-management class. "Hell will freeze over before I apologize for that..." Everett said.

The trooper said Everett had created a driving hazard while passing a number of vehicles on Arkansas 140 near Osceola.
