New Jersey tunnel finally opens, minus big rigs

About five years and $105 million later, a half-mile tunnel near Trenton, NJ, opened earlier this month. Trucks weighing more than 13 tons are not permitted.

The tunnel connects Route 29 with Route 129 and Interstates 195 and 295 forming a beltway around the city. Trucks banned from the tunnel are being permanently rerouted around the tunnel to neighboring streets, unless they have local delivery. Hazardous materials haulers are completely banned from the tunnel.
