South Dakota trucking companies under investigation

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is reviewing alleged logbook violations of two South Dakota trucking companies. The companies, which are owned by Michael L. Walsh of Watertown, are accused of forcing drivers to break weekly driving limits and concealing it from authorities.

Federal agents have searched Cy and Mike's Highway Service in Watertown and Action Carrier in Sioux Falls. On 10 different occasions since 1996, logbook violations and evasion of motor carrier regulations allegedly have been committed.

Walsh also allegedly used drivers with suspended or revoked CDLs, failed to conduct pre-employment drug tests and permitted drivers to be on duty for more than 70 hours in eight consecutive days.
