The Washington Department of Transportation has erected four highway signs alongside SR 20 and SR 153 in the Methow Valley of Okanogan County to alert drivers to the danger of collisions with deer.

The six-foot yellow and black square signs caution drivers about deer near the road. The signs also display the number of deer killed annually, this year to date and the estimated dollar value of vehicular damage incurred in the collisions.

The signs will remain in place for three years. At that time, WSDOT will access the signs' effectiveness in reducing the number of deer killed.

Depending on the results, the project will be discontinued, extended or expanded to other areas.
