Update: Missing trucking company owner found dead

A trucking repair company owner missing since May 2 has been found dead. John E. Maier, of Medford, WI, was last seen leaving his business, Premier Trucking in Medford.

Maier was reported missing on May 6 by his live-in girlfriend, Tammy Armstrong. Taylor County (WI) Sheriff, Donald Wright had told Land Line Maier was reported to have been seen in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. He was found May 25 in a swampy area of northern Taylor County. Maier had been shot twice in the head. A rifle was later found in Rusk County, WI.

Armstrong was arrested May 24 on charges of hiding Maier's corpse and obstructing a Taylor County Sheriff's Department deputy. She confessed that she had disposed of Maier's remains and lied to authorities about his disappearance, Sheriff Wright said.

During the May 6 phone call, Armstrong had told the Sheriff's Department that Maier had been missing since May 2 after the couple had an argument. She told a deputy that Maier had driven off in a white truck and had taken a gun with him.

Armstrong appeared in Taylor County Circuit Court May 24 with cash bond set at $20,000. If convicted of the two counts, she faces a maximum of 10 years and nine months in prison and $20,000 in fines. Her next court appearance is set for June 4.

Further charges are expected against Armstrong pending completion of autopsy and crime lab reports.
