A Florida man Tuesday became the 46th person convicted in the Operation Safe Road corruption investigation. He admitted in U.S. District Court that he accepted at least $40,000 in bribes in return for passing unqualified truckers on road tests so they could obtain licenses.

Jorge E. Carranza of Lauderhill, FL, a trucking company employee certified to administer road tests in the state, passed bribe-paying applicants even when they ran stop signs or drove over curbs, according to a published report. He pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud.

The charges stem from the government's four-year investigation into the selling of driver's licenses for bribes. To this point, 57 people have been charged and 46 convicted. The remaining 11 are awaiting trial.
