The Mississippi transportation department announced Monday the Natchez Weigh Station is closing immediately.
"The closure is a result of a couple of factors," MDOT Office of Law Enforcement Director Willie Huff said. "The building is in need of extensive maintenance and renovations, and will be impacted by future construction projects."
Huff said the facility's closure is permanent. "There are no other plans to rebuild the station at this time."
According
to Huff, enforcement officers will use other methods to enforce
the state's commercial vehicle regulations in the Natchez area.
"Weight and permit enforcement will be conducted with increased
coverage of MDOT officers using portable scale units," he
said.
