Construction closes parts of Detroit's I-94 for weekend

Road crews will shut down a section of eastbound and westbound I-94 near Detroit this weekend for construction. Eastbound lanes will be closed from I-96 in Detroit to I-696 in St. Clair Shores. Westbound lanes will be closed from I-696 to I-75 in Detroit. The closures are from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured onto eastbound I-96, to northbound I-75, to northbound M-3 (Gratiot Avenue), to eastbound I-696, then back to eastbound I-94. In addition, the ramp from eastbound I-696 to westbound I-94 also will be closed. Westbound traffic will be detoured to westbound I-696, to southbound M-3, to southbound I-75, to westbound I-96, back to westbound I-94.

The extensive, multi-year I-94 rehabilitation plan includes resurfacing the freeway between Masonic Avenue in Roseville and the I-96 interchange in Detroit. In addition, 52 bridges between Conner Avenue in Detroit and Metro Parkway in Harrison Township will be repaired, and the I-94/75 interchange will be rehabilitated.
