An Illinois man wanted for questioning in the death of his ex-wife was killed Wednesday along with his 6-year-old daughter in a head-on collision with a semi that police suspect was a suicide. The truckdriver reportedly was not injured.

At about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, John G. Scherer was driving a sport utility vehicle about 15 miles south of Waterloo, IA, when he allegedly made a sharp turn across the center line on Highway 218 and collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer.

Authorities had been searching for him and his daughter, Rachel, after finding Sheri F. Scherer bludgeoned in her Naperville, IL, home Tuesday afternoon. Rachel was reported missing Tuesday after being absent from summer school.
