Lawsuits hold up West Virginia highway widening

West Virginia has halted work on the widening of state Highway 9 until two lawsuits are resolved, The Dominion Post reported recently.

The project, which would widen the road from two to four lanes between Charles Town and the Virginia state line.

The lawsuits revolve around the impact of the highway on Belvedere Farm, a historic site, and trees along the Shenandoah River, which the highway would cross. A number of the trees would have to be removed to make way for the bridge.

The action will not hold up the widening of Highway 9 from Charles Town to Martinsburg, the paper reported.
