Before the state Legislature adjourned for the holidays Dec. 16, New Jersey Assemblywoman Connie Myers (R-Warren and Hunterdon counties) introduced a bill that could split speed limits for cars and trucks in the Garden State.

A3127 establishes a 55-mph speed limit for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 or more pounds and for vehicles used to transport hazardous materials and requiring placards. The split speed limit would affect only those portions of public highways currently posted at 65 mph.

Myers' bill has been referred to the Assembly Transportation Committee. The Legislature will reconvene Jan. 9, 2003.
