Forty truckers decorated their rigs for the holidays and circled the town of Salisbury, MD, this week as they took part in the annual Operation Teddy Bear.
The truckers, all of whom work for food company Perdue, have "adopted" a number of disabled residents in the town every year for 20 years, the company said in a release. Most of the people who benefit are residents of the Holly Center.
The effort was inspired by the Red Sovine country music hit, "Teddy Bear." The singer's eldest grandson, Ben Shepherd, attended the event, representing Sovine's family.
The truckers provided rides to more than 140 residents, taking them on an 11-mile loop through Wicomico County. At the end of the morning, the drivers and residents were treated to a lunch provided by Perdue Farms and the Holly Center.
