A group of Democratic governors asked President Bush Monday to keep federal funding for highway work and other programs, The Express-Times of Easton, PA, reported Dec. 10.
The Democratic governors met in Washington, DC, Monday, Dec. 9.
New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey was among those who urged the administration to oppose cuts in federal highway spending that were proposed in February. The cuts were a response to lower fuel-tax revenue, The Express-Times said. The governor said the funds, combined with matching funds from states, could promote job growth.
