North Carolina speed crackdown nets 500 tickets

The North Carolina Highway Patrol issued 487 tickets to motorists Aug. 16 in a speed reduction campaign along I-95. The patrol says future crackdowns on highways throughout the state are planned.

The one-day speed reduction blitz resulted in 347 speeding violations, five driving while impaired, 10 driving with license suspended or revoked, 25 following too close and 100 other charges including erratic lane changes.

Troopers tracked drivers from the South Carolina to Virginia state lines using unmarked patrol vehicles, motorcycles and helicopters.
