EPA certifies second Cummins engine

Cummins Inc. announced Aug. 15 it has received certification for its medium-duty ISB engine from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA approval certifies that the ISB complies with the strict new emission standards that go into effect Oct. 1, 2002, for medium-duty diesel engines.

The 5.9-liter ISB engine is used in trucks, buses, RV's, fire trucks, step vans and other medium-duty applications. Cummins says it's on schedule to have a full product line available for customers by the deadline.

On April 2, Cummins announced its heavy-duty ISX engine became the first engine certified to the new EPA standard. At that time, the company stated it would certify the ISB engine mid-summer, and the ISM engine before the October deadline. The company continues on schedule to meet these commitments.
