Kentucky offers amnesty program

Kentucky is offering a two-month tax amnesty program for tax scofflaws. The program began Aug. 1 and ends Sept. 30. In a public television announcement, Governor Paul Patton announced Wednesday people who owe taxes to the state could clear up debts without prosecution, penalty or back interest during the amnesty period.

"The majority of the 90,000 taxpayers with outstanding tax bills are individuals, but most of the money is owed by businesses," said Alex Rose, general counsel for the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet. The program applies to back taxes incurred on or after Dec. 1, 1987, and prior to Dec. 1, 2002, he said. For more information visit www.amnesty.ky.gov or call (877) 665-9829. Amnesty applications are available from county clerk offices.
