Truck tippings in Philly prompt expressway work

The latest in a series of truck accidents at Pittsburgh's Schuylkill Expressway 28th Street curve has prompted PennDOT to promise further improvement there. The announcement follows a legislator's stern letter calling for a less treacherous curve.

Following two tractor-trailer rollovers at the curve in March, Rep. Robert Donatucci recently sent a letter to the state's transportation secretary asking the agency to do more for safety there.

In response, PennDOT says a truck tipping sign will be posted at the curve as well as a 45-mph speed advisory. Previous improvements included restriping the University Avenue on-ramp to allow only one lane to merge onto the expressway.
