Border checkpoints behind schedule

The June deadline for opening the U.S. border to Mexican trucks may be coming too soon for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), which has not completed construction of inspection stations to handle increased traffic.

The San Antonio Express-News reported TxDOT is still negotiating to buy or lease land near the border in Laredo to build one station. The department recently completed in-ground "weigh-in-motion" scales, the newspaper reported.

However, TxDOT and the city of Laredo are in a dispute over where to build other federally-required inspection stations.
