Trism cuts jobs, services

Trism Inc. announced earlier this week that it is getting out of businesses that have caused the company to be unprofitable over the last two years. Several terminal facilities also will be closed and non-driver personnel eliminated to further reduce operating costs.

The Kennesaw, GA-based company will drop segments of its general freight and hazardous waste business. Trism will concentrate on its core profitable businesses in heavy haul, government munitions, commercial explosives and radioactive waste.

The company has reached agreements with Mercedes-Benz Credit Corp. and its other equipment lenders to reschedule certain equipment payments and to return excess trailers. Trism operates a pool of more than 1,300 tractors and more than 4,000 trailers throughout North America.
