Anyone who believes they have a lemon on their hands should contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The agency maintains a hotline and web site for reporting potential vehicle defects - for big rigs and other automobiles.
Your report will be entered into NHTSA's vehicle owner's complaint database and used with other reports to determine if a safety-related defect trend exists. If a safety-related defect exists in any vehicle or item of vehicle equipment, the manufacturer must fix it at no cost to the owner. Your report is the first step in the process.
If you think your vehicle has a problem, or if you want to find out what's been reported to NHTSA, call toll free 1-888-327-4236 (DASH-2-DOT) or visit www.nhtsa.dot.gov/hotline.
