AzDOT director nominated for FHWA top spot

Arizona Transportation Director Mary Peters could become the first female to head the Federal Highway Administration if confirmed by the Senate. President George W. Bush announced Peters' nomination July 11.

Peters holds a bachelor of arts degree in management from the University of Phoenix. Peters has been with ADOT since 1985 and was appointed as the first female director by Governor Jane Hull in March 1998. Peters currently manages an organization of over 4,800 employees, organized into divisions which include the Intermodal Transportation Division, the Motor Vehicle Division, the Transportation Planning Division, and the Aeronautics Division.
