The Alabama Department of Transportation began work Monday night along the state's busiest stretch of highway to repair cracking and deteriorating on roads and bridges. All construction will be completed overnight.
Northbound lanes of Interstate 20/59 will be repaved through the summer along the stretch of I-20/59 near I-65. The highway is the most heavily traveled segment of road in the state with 150,000 vehicles per day, according to ALDOT.
The schedule for the paving will be 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday. The work is scheduled to be complete by Sept. 1.
