Swift, M.S. Carriers seal merger deal

Swift Transportation and M.S. Carriers announced late last week that they have completed their merger. The deal will reportedly turn the combined firm into a $2 billion trucking giant.

The consummation of the merger comes more than six months after the announcement that the two national carriers would join forces. M.S. Carriers becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Swift in the merger.

The deal creates one of the largest truckload carriers in the country. With the merger, the company will have 15,000 tractors and 45,000 trailers offering service in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Swift believes the new company will lead the industry in revenue, net earnings, number of tractors and trailers, stockholders' equity and market capitalization.

M.S. Carriers stockholders will receive 1.7 shares of Swift common stock for each share of M.S. Carriers common stock, with cash paid in lieu of the issuance of fractional shares.
