Florida town targets trucks

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has created a special inspection unit targeting commercial vehicles. The new enforcement unit will be on the lookout for tire, brake, lights and driver qualification violations, as well as weight and speed. Deputies will have portable scales to measure a truck's weight.

Patrols are scheduled to begin by Nov. 1, after deputies undergo special commercial enforcement training. Coral Springs is the only other local police agency in the state with authority to stop and cite trucks for weight violations and faulty equipment.
