German truckers will need to carry plenty of cash for the new autobahn tolls. BBC News reported the German government has decided to introduce tolls for trucks in an effort to shift the transport of goods to railways and waterways.
Tolls, which will take effect in 2003, will be based on the distance traveled and the level of exhaust emissions.
Kurt Bodewig, the German transport minister, told BBC News the money raised would be used to improve the country's highways.
