Pittsburgh Power Computers soon to be available for Cat engines

Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh, Inc. will soon offer the Pittsburgh Power Computer for Caterpillar engines. The Power Computers are currently available for the Celect and Celect Plus Cummins' engines.

"There are now 48 Pittsburgh power performance computers on Celect and Celect plus Cummins engines. We expect to bring this product to market for Cat engines by late fall," says Diesel Injection's Bruce Mallinson. The Power Computer increases horsepower with the turn of a dial. There are seven power levels, each level adding about 25 hp.

"On the average one half mile per gallon fuel mileage increase is being attained by the owner-operators with the computer set on level 4," Mallinson reports, "which is about a 100 horsepower increase over the stock horsepower."

Mallinson cites the results reported from OOIDA member Ed Cooley of Flatwoods, WV, saying that he is getting over one mile per gallon better fuel mileage from his CPL 1844 Celect engine. Cooley owns an International with a 15-speed transmission, 3:70 rears, tall rubber and hauls logs and lumber on a flat bed. The average fuel mileage of his truck was 5.5 mpg and now it's as high as 6.8 mpg, he reports.
