A Vermont road project to replace badly deteriorated pavement is scheduled to begin soon on a stretch of Interstate 89. The state Agency of Transportation expects to repave 190 miles of highways.Work on the 15.4-mile section of I-89 northbound from Brookfield to Montpelier will be completed over the next two years. The northbound portion was last paved over a two-year period from 1986 to 1987. The southbound portion of the highway was paved in 1998.
The first section of the I-89 work, on a 6-mile section between South Barre and Montpelier, must be finished by Oct. 15. The date marks the traditional end of the paving season.
