Connecticut targets tractor-trailers

A campaign to crack down on speeding and unsafe trucks kicked off earlier this week in Connecticut. The new enforcement division is scheduled to patrol along the Merritt Parkway (CT 15) and on Interstates 95 and 84.

A crew of 50 state troopers from the traffic squad, truck squad and the state fire marshal's office have joined with 50 Department of Motor Vehicle commercial vehicle inspectors to create the new division. The state's Public Safety Commissioner Arthur Spada claims an increase in commuter complaints against truckers, coupled with the goal to reduce fatalities involving heavy-duty trucks, for the new division's creation.
