Rain didn’t stop 30th annual Mother’s Day Make-A-Wish convoy participants from lining up in record numbers. The event benefits Philadelphia/Northern Delaware/Susquehana Valley area children with critical and life threatening illnesses. Donations generated help Make-A-Wish to grant 365 life-changing wishes each year.
Raising money is a point of pride for drivers who return each year to support the cause.
“This was the first year we've filled up every spot in the parking lot and were having to park trucks off site for the very first time,” Ben Lee, director for Make-A-Wish in the Susquehanna Valley told Lancaster, Pa., local news station WGAL in an interview on Sunday.
An official figure of dollar amounts raised isn’t expected until mid-June, as participating drivers are working feverishly to secure their spot for next year. The coveted leader position for 2020 is granted to the team or driver with the most money raised in 2019.
The budgeting goal for this year’s convoy was $550,000 – and Ben Lee’s personal goal was $600,000.
Road Pro Family of Brands sponsored the stage and entertainment – and the show went on, despite crummy weather. The company presented a donation of $30,000 r to Lee.
Lee said he is optimistic that they will be close to $550,000 this year because of how the donations are trending.
