The owner of a Crooksville, Ohio-based company has pleaded guilty for his role in a scheme that provided trucking companies with fraudulent overweight vehicle permits, according to federal court documents.

Shadd Hiles, owner of The Permit Guys Consulting, was in the business of providing overweight permits from various states for trucking companies. From May 2012 to around October 2012, Hiles falsified Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Transportation overweight permits. Hiles then sold the permits to Tim Lynch Trucking, claiming they were legal permits obtained from state governments. At least 10 permits were falsified.

Hiles was indicted on Jan. 27 and pleaded guilty to two counts, including wire fraud and false statements, on Aug. 4. A sentence hearing for Hiles has not been scheduled as of press time.
