A man was killed after attempting to ride on the hitch of a big rig on Wednesday morning in Nashville, Tenn.

According to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, the deceased man was identified as 39-year-old Jeremy Green, who was homeless.

Investigators determined that Green was riding between the rig’s two tandem trailers as it made a left turn. Green subsequently fell off and was run over.

Police said the truck driver, Maurice Watson, 43, of Jonesboro, Ark., is not believed to have known that Green was on the rig or that he fell off. According to a news release, witnesses flagged down another truck from the same company and told the driver what had occurred. The company’s dispatcher then contacted Watson, who returned to the scene.

Green was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
