Authorities investigating the shooting death of a New Jersey truck driver who was killed by another trucker in Florida last weekend say the search for the suspect continues.

A spokesman with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Department in Gainesville confirmed that deputies did detain a man driving an orange Freightliner tractor for questioning on Wednesday morning at Pilot Travel Center in Waldo, Fla., but that the man was released after being excluded as a suspect.

A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the murder of 44-year-old George Guerrero, a trucker from Perth Amboy, N.J.

Guerrero was gunned down at 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, on eastbound I-10 between Commerce Parkway and Chaffee Road.

According to police, the suspect was driving another semi-truck described as an early to mid-2000 Century or Columbia Freightliner cab, dull orange in color, and pulling a 53-foot white trailer. The suspect has been described as a black male with a beard.

A news release from the Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Department says that when Guerrero moved from the left lane back over into the right lane, the orange semi pulled alongside and appeared to bump the victim’s truck, causing Guerrero to veer off I-10 and into the woods. Police say the suspect shot the victim as he passed him.

The suspect’s vehicle possibly has damage to the passenger side. Investigation into the shooting has developed some follow-up information.

The photo has been identified as a likeness of the tractor/cab being driven by the suspect at the time of the shooting. It is a stock photo of the make, model, and color (2000-2005 Freightliner Century flattop, sleeper and fairing).

Anyone who has any information regarding the identity of this suspect or the location of the pictured vehicle is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@JaxSheriff.org. To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward up to $3,000, contact Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
