Police seek 'person of interest' in hit and run

Police are searching for “a person of interest” after a hit-and-run involving a tractor-trailer killed one man and injured another.

According to multiple reports, a truck driver allegedly ran a red light going westbound on 37th Street in Vernon, Calif., and hit a pickup truck about 3 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.

Armando Murillo, who was a passenger in the pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup’s driver sustained minor injuries.

After the accident, the pickup was lodged under the semi’s trailer. According to the reports, the big rig’s driver unhooked the trailer and drove away.

Police have named Guillermo Ortiz Jr. as a person of interest. Anyone with information about the crash or Ortiz’s whereabouts can call 323-587-5171.
