A driver of a car who was killed in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer on Tuesday in Pennsylvania was attempting to commit suicide, according to Ligonier Township police.

James Fillman, 39, of Ligonier, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ligonier Police Chief Michael Matrunics said the incident followed a domestic dispute involving Fillman. Police had been called about a disturbance near the site of the collision shortly before it occurred.

Matrunics said James Shaw, a truck driver for Gallicker’s Dairy out of Johnstown, Pa., tried everything he could to avoid hitting the car. Shaw didn’t sustain serious injury.
