Winner of OOIDA Foundation rifle sweepstakes announced

More than 12,000 entries were submitted, but it all came down to one lucky trucker. OOIDA Member Andrew Chisholm of Theodore, Ala., is the winner of the custom-design, limited edition “American Trucker” Henry rifle sweepstakes offered by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association Foundation.

Chisholm, a company driver for Airgas, was in disbelief and shock when he found out he had won the sweepstakes. He mentioned he has not had any luck with contests.

As for the pictures featuring the rifle, Chisholm said that the rifle he received was every bit of what was promised.

“It’s a beautiful gun. I’ve already shown my brother-in-law and a couple of friends,” Chisholm said. “Everybody is real impressed with it. Henry makes a fantastic rifle.”

Always wanting a Henry rifle – and perhaps thinking he wouldn’t win – Chisholm already purchased a Henry rifle in December.

“I’ve always wanted (a Henry),” Chisholm said. “I just bought one a few months ago, and then this one came along.”

Chisholm has decided to keep the rifle in a safe rather than put it out on display. He noted, though, that the Henry is worthy of a glass display for all to see. When he has company, Chisholm won’t hesitate to pull out the rifle and brag about it.

The process of getting the rifle to Chisholm was not as easy as one might think. Federal gun regulations have certain safeguards for firearm transactions. Kyle Wood – owner of Woodland Outdoor Supply in Tippecanoe, Ohio – handled the transfer of the rifle. Despite dealing with a large chain store in Alabama with abnormally strict transaction policies, Wood did everything he could to get the rifle to Chisholm.

“I stuck around late one evening and got the gun all packaged up because I wanted to make sure it got out as soon as possible,” Wood said. “We got it shipped out the next day.”

Upon finding out the rifle was in support of the OOIDA Foundation, Wood absorbed some of the costs of the transfer.
