The California Highway Patrol is seeking information regarding a pair of shootings on Interstate 80 that investigators believe are related.

According to a CHP news release, a male and female were traveling along I-80 eastbound near Pinole Valley Road in an Audi sedan at 11 p.m. (PST) Tuesday when an assailant in another vehicle shot both occupants. Both victims were transported to local hospitals. The male driver died at the hospital, and the female passenger sustained injuries that weren’t life-threatening. Neither of the victims was identified, and their ages weren’t released.

About 4 p.m. Nov. 2, a male driver in a Hyundai Elantra was shot multiple times while traveling west on I-80 near San Pablo Dam Road. The victim, who was not identified, suffered major injuries but survived.

Investigators believe the two shootings are related and that the victims were targeted in both incidents.

“There was no evidence to make us believe that these were random acts,” Officer Daniel Hill said.

The CHP is seeking witnesses in both cases. People with information regarding the shootings can call the highway patrol’s tip line at 800-TELL-CHP (800-835-5247).

“We are seeking people who witnessed the incident itself,” Hill said. “There’s not anything to be on the lookout for at this time. We don’t perceive any public threat to safety.”
