On Sunday, Aug. 30, the Rockwall Police responded to the TravelCenters of America truck stop on Interstate 30 to a report of a police impersonator.
According to a warning posted to the Rockwall (Texas) Police Department’s Facebook page, the police impersonator informed the individuals he was with a special task force working narcotic interdiction and needed to search their vehicles. The first male was outside his truck and away from it. He refused entry, and the man left when the victim said he was calling the police.
The suspect went to a second truck and woke the driver, showed the driver a badge, and demanded the driver sit in the passenger seat during a search of the truck. The victim began to question the suspect about his authenticity and a small two-way radio carried by the suspect.
The suspect grabbed the victim’s wallet, pushed the victim against the passenger door and got out of the truck. According to witness reports, the suspect fled in a gold or tan Nissan.
The suspect is described by the Rockwall Police Department as an African-American male in his mid-30s. He is approximately 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing between 200 to 240 pounds, and may have facial hair.
In the most recent incidents reported by the Rockwall Police Department the suspect is reported to have been wearing tan boots, khaki or light-colored cargo-style pants and a dark colored shirt along with a baseball cap with the word “Police” in white letters.
The man is suspected in similar incidents in multiple northeast Texas cities according to the Rockwall Police Department.
Crime Stoppers will pay for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in these crimes. Anyone with information about the suspect’s identification or whereabouts are encouraged to contact the Rockwall Police Department at 972-771-7721 or call 911.
