In Texas, a truck driver trainee is in custody after allegedly stabbing the truck driver who was training him. The trainer did not survive the multiple wounds.

The attack happened Thursday night at an Interstate 35 rest area at Exit 281 south of Salado in Bell County. Lt. T.J. Cruz of the Bell County Sheriff’s Department told Land Line that trucker Ronald Ruiz, 62, was working as a driver instructor for Werner Enterprises.

An argument between the instructor and driver trainee turned into a fight and Ruiz was stabbed by trainee Stanley Polk, 46.

Ruiz was airlifted to a hospital but died overnight of multiple stab wounds.

The trainee fled the scene but was later apprehended walking on a frontage road near the Holiday Inn in Salado.
