Shell Rotella’s SuperRigs is underway and will run through Saturday, June 13, in Selma, Texas, at Retama Park. It’s already looking like a record-breaking year for the truck show and competition.
“Thoroughbreds of Trucking” is this year’s theme. Like the thoroughbred horse that took the first Triple Crown in nearly 40 years a week ago, this year’s collection of thoroughbred trucks may break some records. Land Line Managing Editor Jami Jones is in her 14th year as a judge for the competition. According to Jami, record-setting registration took place on the first day, and more than 80 trucks are registered.
“It is by far and away the most solid top-to-bottom competition wise,” Jones said. “It’s really difficult at this point to even speculate who the standout might be.”
Everything from cabovers to heavy-haulers is represented at SuperRigs. Truck owners will compete for more than $25,000 worth of cash and prizes. Twelve drivers will be selected to have their trucks featured in the 2016 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar. All entrants will be awarded with a gift package valued at more than $50, while supplies last.
Showgoers can enjoy many other activities as well, including the truck light show, Phil Pritchett live in concert, fireworks, games, and the first ever SuperRigs BBQ cook-off.
