Two elephants helped save a truck from overturning on I-49 near Powhatan, La. Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a call Tuesday morning, March 24, regarding assistance with a 2000 Kenworth that was stranded alongside the interstate.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s department, rainy weather had produced soft ground, resulting in the truck getting stuck in the mud.

When deputies arrived, they were surprised to find two elephants leaning against the Kenworth, preventing the truck from flipping over. Deputies discovered that the elephants were being transported in the truck from Florida to Dallas, Texas, for a circus.

A wrecker relieved the elephants of their assistance and pulled the truck off the shoulder edge. No citations were issued.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Department could not immediately be reached for further comment.
