In response to the pervasive issue of truck parking, the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Kansas Turnpike Authority have implemented a truck parking study.

Kansas’ parking capacity, conditions, trends and opportunities will all be examined under the study, according to a KDOT press release. The study aims to come up with recommendations to improve safety, efficiency and competitiveness.

Certain freight corridors that the Kansas Freight Advisory Committee considers significant will be studied. Areas of particular interest will include Interstate 70, I-35 and the Kansas Turnpike.

Engineering consulting company HNTB Corp., headquartered in Kansas City, will conduct the study. The research is expected to be completed in October.
