The Trucker Talent Spotlight has been part of the Friday night activities in the Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium parking lot for years during Mid-America Trucking Show week in Louisville, Ky. Performers do not have to be professional, extraordinary or even exceptional. All they need is some confidence to get up there and do their thing.
This year’s spotlight takes place Friday, March 27, on the OOIDA stage sometime after the official show gates close at the Kentucky Expo Center, or as co-host Marcia Campbell refers to it, “supper time.”
“This is about good times, fellowship and fun. And it truly is a no judgment zone,” Campbell said. “It’s not a contest. If you want to get up and read poetry, you can. If you want to sing a gospel song, you can. It doesn’t have to be a karaoke professional performance. Bring your music, bring your guitar, bring your CD, and join us.”
Campbell, whose regular gig is hosting “The WSM All-Nighter” on 650 AM in Nashville and square dancing at the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights, will join “Land Line Now” Host Mark Reddig as co-emcee of the Trucker Talent Showcase.
Campbell’s “All-Nighter” show features a nightly callout in appreciation for truckers, and she says she will do something similar during the Trucker Talent Showcase. Between performers, Campbell says she wants to show appreciation for the many volunteers and charities that work tirelessly each year to make the Papa John’s lot and the talent showcase a success.
“These are my people. I can relax and have fun and it feels good to be out there. I’m looking forward to that portion of my weekend,” she said. “It’s all about fun, fellowship and keeping that brotherhood strong.”
During truck show hours inside the Expo Center, Campbell has set aside some time to feature trucker talent at the WSM booth. The best times for that are Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
