Special Olympics convoy happening across North America on Sept. 20

All across North America, various states and provinces will be hosting the Annual World’s Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics on Sept. 20. From Arizona to North Carolina and as far north as Alberta, Canada, people can participate, watch the convoy, and enjoy other activities.

In conjunction with the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the one-day event combines celebrating the truck industry with raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics. Truckers will meet at a staging location and move the convoy to a predetermined location. Other events will vary from location to location.

Below are the Special Olympics convoys slated for this Saturday, Sept. 20:

Arizona – Westgate City Center
The convoy will move from the Westgate City Center in Glendale, Ariz., for a 20-mile route around the valley and back to the center.

Arkansas – Maverick USA
Music, lunch, live auctions, speakers and an award ceremony are all included. Convoy will move from Maverick USA in North Little Rock to Highway 70, onto I-440, to I-30, onward to I-40 and take Exit 161 back to Maverick USA.

Nebraska – Smith Softball Complex
Sept. 19 will include a picnic, softball game, raffle and other activities at the Smith Softball Complex in Hastings, Neb. Saturday will include the convoy, award ceremony, lunch, auction and more. The convoy will go from Hastings, Neb., to Grand Island, Neb., using Highway 281.

North Carolina – Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
Route will start at PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte and use U.S. 29 and I-485 to loop back around.

South Carolina – S.C. Department of Public Safety
Truckers will meet at the grounds of the S.C. Department of Public Safety and are escorted in convoy down I-77 through one of the busiest corridors of Columbia and back. A picnic, live DJ, dunk-a-cop booth, jump castle, massages and other games and activities will all be available.

South Dakota – Central States Fairgrounds
Live music, food by Texas Roadhouse, and a light show at dusk will kick things off on Friday. The convoy on Saturday will start at the Fairgrounds in Rapid City and use SD-44, Sedivy Lane, Patrick Street and Campbell Street to complete the loop.

South Dakota – W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds
Live music, food by Texas Roadhouse, a poker tournament and a light show at dusk will kick things off on Friday. Truckers will meet at the fairgrounds in Sioux Falls and make the loop via I-229 and I-29.

Wisconsin – Pioneer Travel Plaza
Presented by Quad/Graphics and EH Wolf and Sons, truckers will move along Highway 41 from Richfield to Oshkosh. The day will wrap up with a celebration party complete with live music from singer/songwriter Rob Anthony, awards, raffles, an auction and tailgate party.

A day complete with music, celebration and OOIDA Life Member Alex Deborgoski from “Ice Road Truckers” as this year’s Convoy Marshal.  The convoy will pass through Dartmouth, Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage before returning to F Hangar, 12 wing Shearwater.
