Participating TravelCenters of America and Petro Stopping Center locations will be offering free mid-trip inspections through Sept. 15. This limited offer is in concurrence with Brake Safety Week, which runs Sept. 7-13.
Truckers will be able to bring in their tractor, trailer or both to identify any repairs needed before going through a CMV inspection. Mid-trip inspections will look for key items that the DOT looks for.
CMV inspectors will be checking brake systems on trucks and buses across the country. From the CVSA press release, inspectors will be looking for loose or missing parts, air or hydraulic fluid leaks, worn linings, pads, drums or rotors, and other faulty brake-system components. In addition, inspectors will check the antilock braking system indicator lights. As needed, measurements of the pushrod stroke will be taken.
Any trucks found to have defective or out-of-adjustment brakes will be placed out of service. For specific details on the inspection procedure, visit the CVSA website.
