The clock is ticking fast toward the Sept. 2 deadline for filing the Form 2290. OOIDA is closing on Friday at 3 p.m., but the Association’s partner in 2290 filings – Express Truck Tax – will remain open throughout this deadline weekend to support the many truckers that have 2290 questions over the weekend.
The Form 2290 is the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax – that $550 fee you pay each year on each truck or taxable vehicles you own. In general, the federal heavy vehicle use tax applies to trucks, truck tractors and buses with a gross taxable weight of 55,000 pounds or more.
Express Truck Tax, an IRS-Authorized e-file provider, offers OOIDA members a simple and affordable way to e-file Form 2290. You get your stamped Schedule 1 back within minutes of filing. It’s easy to use, and you’ll find help text, videos, and support options throughout the program that will guide you through the process step by step. You can e-file a single vehicle Form 2290 for only $9.90.
Charles Hardy of Express Tax Truck says at this point, it is really too late for paper filing.
“Truckers would have to wait for weeks to get the stamped Schedule 1 by mail, and IRS offices are extraordinarily busy or not even open during the upcoming holiday weekend,” Hardy says.
Although the traditional deadline is Aug. 31, this year the IRS Form 2290 states that the deadline has been extended until Sept. 2 due to the holiday weekend. And anyone can file anytime through OOIDA2290.com.
