Peterbilt announces new powertrain option for natural gas vehicles

A new powertrain option is now available on some of Peterbilt Motor Co.’s natural gas vehicles.

According to Peterbilt’s news release, the powertrain option will be available on the Peterbilt 579, its on-highway model, as well as the Peterbilt 567, its vocational model. These models will include an automated transmission and can be powered by either compressed natural gas or liquefied natural gas.

The Eaton UltraShift Plus and Cummins Westport ISX12 G are available on Peterbilt’s 579, 567, 384 and 365 models, according to the release.

“This new powertrain is an ideal option for our customers in vocational, regional and line haul applications, providing precise shifting for more efficient operation with a versatile, fuel efficient natural gas engine,” said Robert Woodall, director of marketing for Peterbilt, in the release.

Peterbilt Motor Co., headquartered in Denton, Texas, has more than 280 dealer locations in North America.
