When the green tarp dropped off the side of the building entrance at the North Las Vegas Petro last week, it was a moment to remember for OOIDA Members Bob and Linda Caffee. The Petro location is now named “Linda and Bob Caffee North Las Vegas Stopping Center.”
In addition to the changing of the signs, the Petro location features a large poster of the Caffees with their truck alongside a list of their accomplishments. All this came about in honor of their 2014 Citizen Driver Award from TravelCenters of America.
“It was so amazing. I don’t even know how to explain how amazing it was,” Linda Caffee told “Land Line Now” after Wednesday’s event. “And you know what was even cooler was how excited all of the employees of that Petro were to meet us.”
Also present at the ceremony was FMCSA administrator Anne Ferro.
“She was so excited about it. We talked about my truck and expediting and truckload,” Caffee said. “She had the time to visit and to see things, and she talked to drivers who were there. We got a great chance to talk about trucks and some of the issues we’re having with hours of service and CSA. A fantastic chance to talk to her one-on-one.”
This year, seven nominees were named Citizen Drivers and had a TA or Petro location of their choice named for them. The signs have all been changed at these locations, and dedication ceremonies will take place over the coming weeks.
On Saturday, May 10, OOIDA Senior Member Jimmy Ardis was honored at a luncheon at the Manning, S.C. TA, now known as the “Jimmy Ardis Manning Travel Center.”
