Shell Rotella SuperRigs scheduled for May 15-17

| Tuesday, May 13, 2014

The 32nd annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs competition is scheduled at zMAX Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., May 15-17. This year’s theme is “Go Big” and will feature big rigs, more than $25,000 in cash and prizes, access to two races at Charlotte Motor Speedway, live concerts and more.

The Shell Rotella SuperRigs competition is a truck beauty contest for actively working trucks. Twelve owner/operator truckers will be selected to have their truck featured in the 2015 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar.

“The 32nd Shell Rotella SuperRigs will bring together great looking trucks, high-powered stock car racing, lots of events and some great concerts to make this our best SuperRigs ever,” said Chris Guerrero, global brand manager, Shell Rotella.  “We decided on a theme of “Go Big” and people coming to SuperRigs will see that we put together a great weekend of competition and entertainment.”

Entrants will be able to register on site and enter the judging line at their own convenience. Participation is free, and each entrant will receive a gift package from Shell Rotella. Judging will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16, and between 7:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.  Judging takes about 20 minutes and contestants do not need to be present to win. The presentation ceremony for the awards will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.

Trucks entered in SuperRigs are judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications or broadcast companies. The judges – who include Land Line Magazine Managing Editor Jami Jones – score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality, and workmanship. This year is Jones’ 12th year judging the event.

In total, 24 working trucks receive awards for categories such as Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor-Trailer Combination and Classic.

SuperRigs will feature many events including a custom BBQ pit, the interactive Rotella Road Show, a meet and greet with National Tractor Pullers Association champions Larry and Adam Koester, the debut of “Going Big” by rock musician Phil Pritchett, and more. A vendor pavilion area will also be available.

Be sure and stop by OOIDA’s tour truck – “The Spirit of the American Trucker” – and say hello to OOIDA Board Members Lewie Pugh of Freeport, Ohio, and Bill Rode of Eagle, Idaho. Pugh and Rode will have a special guest there, too: one of the Association’s scholarship winners. The OOIDA Mary Johnston Scholarship Fund is generously supported by Shell Rotella.
