OOIDA recognizes drivers for safe driving records

OOIDA recently announced honorees in the Association’s Safe Driving Award program. The following drivers have been recognized by the Association for truck driving excellence:

  • Ted Chapman of King, N.C., has been recognized for 59 years of safe, accident-free driving. Ted currently hauls produce, dry freight and cabinet parts.
  • Richard L. Clapp of Villa Grove, Ill., has been recognized for 45 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • John Street of Hillsboro, Ill., has been recognized for 40 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Daniel P. Gaither of Longmont, Colo., has been recognized for 36 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Steven B. Bixler, Sr. of Valley View, Pa., has been recognized for 35 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Terry Spruk of Merriam, Kan., has been recognized for 33 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Marion L. Crafts of Bend, Ore., has been recognized for 30 years of safe, accident-free driving. Marion currently hauls power sports equipment such as wave runners and all-terrain vehicles.
  • Keith A. Russell of Belle Vernon, Pa., has been recognized for 29 years of safe, accident-free driving. Keith currently hauls steel.
  • Miles Verhoef of Saco, Mont., has been recognized for 29 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Tommy C. Counts of Krum, Texas, has been recognized for 28 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Linda M. Spruk of Merriam, Kan., has been recognized for 27 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Cindy L. Ragan of Howard, Colo., has been recognized for 23 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Keith Jibben of Graceville, Minn., has been recognized for 22 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Chuck Hutton of Piqua, Ohio, has been recognized for 21 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Leo Wilkins of St. Charles, Mich., has been recognized for 21 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Scott W. Kunath of Paris, Tenn., has been recognized for 20 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Michael E. Zanella of Columbus, Ohio, has been recognized for 19 years of safe, accident-free driving. Michael currently hauls general freight.
  • Michael W. King of Lathrop, Mo., has been recognized for 18 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Tony Smith of Indianapolis, Ind., has been recognized for 18 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Michael W. Kurtz of Oklahoma City, Okla., has been recognized for 13 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Kevin F. Russell of Macungie, Pa., has been recognized for 12 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Ron G. Shaw of Meadville, Pa., has been recognized for 12 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Shawn L. Kirscht of Walsenburg, Colo., has been recognized for 10 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Jack McComb of Littleton, Colo., has been recognized for 10 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Frank S. Nathanson of Staten Island, N.Y., has been recognized for 10 years of safe, accident-free driving. Frank currently hauls flatbed freight.
  • Frank Owen of Woodway, Texas, has been recognized for 10 years of safe, accident-free driving. Frank currently hauls flatbed freight
  • Cheryl M. Wilson of Issaquah, Wash., has been recognized for 10 years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Johanne P. Couture of Brockville, Ontario, Canada, has been recognized for five years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Steve L. Sartor of Norwood, Mo., has been recognized for five years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Jim Mathews of Greeley, Colo., has been recognized for three years of safe, accident-free driving.
  • Hamlin Raney of Wake Forest, N.C., has been recognized for three years of safe, accident-free driving.


The OOIDA Safe Driving Award Program is designed to recognize and reward OOIDA members for their safe, accident-free years while operating a commercial vehicle. Safe driving awards are available to all eligible OOIDA members who qualify based on the number of years for which the member has operated a commercial vehicle without being involved in a preventable accident.
