You’ve read just recently about FMCSA’s top trucking official Anne Ferro spending two days on the road with a professional driver. That driver was Leo Wilkins of St. Charles, Mich. He is an OOIDA life member and a member of the OOIDA Board of Directors.
You’ve also read recently about OOIDA Senior Member Terry Button serving on the National Freight Advisory Committee and Life Members Lewie Pugh and Bryan Spoon testifying before a congressional committee on truck parking.
Life Members Bob Esler, Dick Pingel and Steve Bixler were all featured recently in issues of Land Line with op-ed pieces. They are all members of the OOIDA Board of Directors, too.
The OOIDA Board members do a lot more than meet twice a year at Association headquarters in Grain Valley, Mo., to conduct OOIDA business. As you can see, they represent truckers in a number of special capacities.
Have you ever thought you’d like to be part of the OOIDA Board of Directors? Now is your chance to run for election.
Every two years, OOIDA holds an election for alternates to the Association’s Board. Alternates are elected by and from the membership for two-year terms. All alternate board member terms expire in 2014.
The election process officially began Nov. 15, 2013. The Nomination-Election Committee sent nomination forms to all current dues-paying members. The nomination forms are now available online, too.
Here’s how the process works. Members can nominate themselves or another qualified member. According to the Association bylaws, a member is qualified to be nominated as an alternate provided he or she has a minimum of five consecutive years of commercial truck driving experience and five consecutive years of active membership in the Association immediately before the nomination. The deadline to return nomination forms is Dec. 31.
Once all nomination forms are received, the Nomination-Election Committee will verify qualification of the nominees, conduct interviews of those individuals, and submit a ballot to the full membership for its consideration. The election will take place in the fall of 2014, and successful nominees will be seated at the 2015 spring board meeting.
